  2. Revoked File Permissions: The owner of the shared document changed or revoked permission privileges.
  3. API Rate Throttling: The developer API client has exceeded Google’s request threshold limits.
  4. Corrupted Session Cookies: Expired browser tokens preventing authentication.

Detailed Steps to Resolve Error 403

Follow these steps to debug the permission blocks:

Step 1: Fix Multiple Google Account Conflicts (The Incognito Test)

The number one trigger for a 403 error is account confusion in your active browser session.

  1. Copy the URL of the Google Drive file that is showing the 403 error.
  2. Open an Incognito / Private Window in your browser (Ctrl + Shift + N on Windows, or Cmd + Shift + N on macOS).
  3. Paste the URL into the address bar.
  4. If prompted, log in with the exact Google account that was explicitly granted access to the file.
